About ABG Bench
Blood gas interpretation, methods, privacy and offline access.
Blood gas interpretation
ABG Bench is a free calculator for adult blood gases at 37°C. It shows the acid–base disturbance, metabolic and respiratory components, and expected compensation. Causes are grouped by mechanism, with the largest estimated metabolic charge effects first.
Arterial, venous and capillary samples are supported. Arterial compensation and oxygenation conclusions are reserved for arterial samples. Interpret results alongside the clinical history, examination and laboratory findings.
Methods and limitations
The calculator combines Stewart–Figge analysis with standard base excess and empirical compensation rules. The methods page gives the equations, assumptions and references.
SIG starts with a conventional 0–2 mEq/L screening range, which can be changed or cleared. A method-matched laboratory interval takes priority; SIDa and SIDe need local intervals. Chart comparison values are mathematical anchors, not clinical reference intervals. Missing measurements, borderline findings and conflicting samples are identified in the results.
Software checks do not replace independent clinical validation, which has not been completed.
Medical disclaimer
ABG Bench supports clinical assessment and education. It does not replace clinical judgement, local protocols or a full assessment of the patient. Check inputs, units and results against the original measurements. Clinicians remain responsible for clinical decisions and patient care.

Privacy
Entered measurements are processed in your browser. The app has no analytics, advertising scripts or remote calculation service. Loading the website makes ordinary requests to the hosting provider.
Cases and laboratory profiles are stored in your browser only when you choose to save them. Choosing Save for offline stores the calculator code, guides and supporting files on this device; it does not save entered measurements. The offline copy remains available on this device without an internet connection. Remove the offline copy on shared devices. Clearing browser data may remove saved work; export a backup if you need to keep it. Do not enter patient identifiers.
Free to use
The calculator and offline download are free. The downloaded file contains the complete app and works without an internet connection or an account.
